Clear Falls Sailors Compete at High School Team Race Nationals

High School Team Race Nationals @ Sail Maine

This past weekend, 7 sailors represented Lakewood Yacht Club and the Clear Falls High School at the High School Team Race Nationals for the Baker Trophy.

Zane Rogers, Dutch Byerly, Noah Zittrer, Tyler Kemberling, Ben Dunphey, Katie McGagh and Maggie Schuler, alongside Head Coach Bernat Gali, traveled to the North East early to seek on site practice, unfortunately winds were too strong on Friday to practice and get used to the T420 boats provided by the OA.

Having earned their spot at the Qualifiers held in Lakewood a few weeks ago, they went to face the other 11 High School qualified all over the country.

Conditions in Maine were good enough, as the Race Committee was able to complete all the rotations and races needed for the Championship. Sunny skies and winds from the South were predominantly.

After a tough first day, Clear Falls fell short into qualifying for Gold Fleet, and finished the day in 10th overall. Things got better the second day, when they won all their races and moved to 9th overall.
